Forthcoming Events

In addition to our weekly support group meetings (every Wednesday) Icebreakers volunteers always try to organise a social event for the last weekend of every month.

Previous events have included pub crawls, theatre visits, film nights and walks (see Past Events).
Icebreakers now has a mobile phone that is for use on the day of events only - just phone up to make sure the event is still on. This number is not for general use (although it will be checked every Wednesday between 7:30 and 8:30pm ) 07925 567 537
The Next Social Event:

Saturday 31st January 2015 - Free Film Night - Dallas Buyers Club - Award winning film based on a true story - In mid-1980s Texas, heterosexual electrician Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) is stunned to learn that he has HIV/AIDS. Though told that he has just 30 days left to live, Woodroof refuses to give in to despair. He seeks out alternative therapies and smuggles unapproved drugs into the U.S. from wherever he can find them whiist setting up a buyers' club, niftily sidestepping US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rules about drug selling by getting HIV/Aids patients to pay for "membership" in which imported medicines are notionally free.

Woodroof makes common cause with the gay guys he used to hate, and this former redneck becomes an inspirational figure, breaking down the ignorance and general homophobia and transphobia thereabouts – his own included.

We will be showing the film promptly at 7:30pm so PLEASE arrive just after 7pm.
We can not guarentee late entries will be admitted as we are not in charge of the door entry system.
All welcome.
After the film there is an opportunity to go for a few drinks in Manchester's Gay Village

Future Icebreakers Events:

Saturday 28th February 2015 - Free Film Night - Title yet to be decided

Saturday 28th March 2015 Free Film Night - Pride.

PRIDE is inspired by an extraordinary true story. It's the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers' families. Initially rebuffed by the Union, the group identifies a tiny mining village in Wales and sets off to make their donation in person. As the strike drags on, the two groups discover that standing together makes for the strongest union of all.
British comedy drama first released last year.
